Tips To Seek Student Loan Debt Relief

Once you step into the world of commercialism after your studies the burden of student loan repayment emerges along with other expenses. Each one of us who had taken student loan wants to get student loan debt relief as quick as possible. If you don't manage the loan debt repayment seriously you would definitely suffer and would be in mess too.

The rising cost of education compels us to take student loans from federal as well as private sources to meet the expenses of education. Consolidation of student loan is quite tough but it is tougher to repay back the loan after you are employed.

Here are few simple tips to get student loan debt relief and avoid outstanding loan debt. These tips are simple and can be followed without any pressure. Tips1- Most repayments of student loans are monthly installments, which you need to pay from your fixed salary, besides the added deduction of taxes, credit card bills and others. Therefore you need to manage your account of repayment properly. Make a proper budget to limit your expenses on the other things for few months till you completely get rid of the debt. Plan your repayments and pay them on time to avoid any legal hassle or garnishment. Tips2- If your income is not sufficient to repay federal student loan you can apply for forbearance or economic hardship deferment which would reduce your monthly installment or suspend it for some time. Keep in mind that if your loan is not federally subsidized the interest rate on the other hand would be growing. Tips3- If your monetary problem is for long term then you can look forward to some alternative payment plans. The payment can be extended to a period, other than regular time. Say, 30 years. But stretching the loan period also increases the total amount paid. For example if you had to pay $20,000 within the standard period of 10 years and you have stretched it to 20 years the amount paid would be nearly $25,000. Tips4- There is another plan called income contingent repayment plan which is based on your income. If you have federal loans through Direct Loan Program then you can avail this facility. Tips5- Another such program would be available by 2009 which is called income based repayment plan something similar to income contingent repayment plant. But for this plan you don't need direct loan program of federal loans. It would be generous in the sense that even if you have higher income you can pay less based on your expenses and other factors. Tips6- There is a plan that says if you work in public sector like you are a public defender or a teacher then your student loan debt would be forgiven if you sincerely pay them for a period of 10 years. Tips7: If your loan is from a private lender then I am sorry to say that most of the above said measures would not hold true for private loans. If you face difficulty in paying private loans let your lender know about it and ask to lower the bill temporarily for sometime or suspend it for a while. If you have been paying the private loan sincerely for sometime now you can seek some relief on interest rates to reduce the amount of monthly installments. Whatever option you choose for your student loan debt relief, make sure that you do them prior the time there is any fault on your part. Because once there is a fault in your loan legal issues arise and you could be subjected to garnishment. Then in case of private loans if you even declare bankruptcy it won't work for you.
