Requirements Of Private Student Loan Without Cosigner

There are two types of student loans available. One is called the federal student loan and the other is called private student loan. Of these two loans getting a private student loan without co-signer is a difficult task. But it is not impossible.

Federal loans such as NSLC PLUS loan program, Perkins loan and others are quite easy to get without a co signer. That means if you don't have a co-borrower of your loan who takes the guarantee to repay back if you fail to repay it on time; the federal government has no issues regarding that. But when it comes to private student loan consolidation it is very difficult to please private lenders to lend you a loan without a co-signer.

However there are few options by which one can avail private student loan without a co-signer in United States. For that you need to fulfill some criteria and get the loan for your education, boarding and other expenses including books. There are both secured and unsecured private loans for students. The following are the requirements to get them.

The first requirement is that you must be enrolled in any eligible institution. That means it must be accredited to some recognized university in the US. The second criterion is that you must be above 18 years of age. Yes, no private lender would be inclined to give you a private education loan if you are below 18 years of age.

Another important thing is that there is no private loan without a co-signer for primary school or high school. For such student loans a cosigner is a must to get private loans. The minimum required age for private student loan varies from state to sate. For instance one needs to be 19 years old in Nebraska, 21 in Puerto Rico or Mississippi and alike.

The third requirement is that you must be enrolled in some undergraduate or higher study programs. The fourth requirement to get a private loan is that you must be a citizen of US or an eligible non-citizen with a valid Alien Registration Receipt Card (INS form I-151 or I-551).

The last and the most important requirement to get a private student loan without a co-borrower is that you should be creditworthy. If you are not creditworthy your application of loan without co signer would be immediately rejected. But if you have a good credit history, a private lender would lend you the sum without a co-signer.

If you apply for a private student loan without cosigner read the interest rates, terms and conditions of repayment and other details. The interest rates of such private student loans given without co borrower are little higher than regular loans with cosigners. That is inevitable because lenders take a risk of providing you the money without a guarantor.
